About SchäferSoft
A team from Thurgau, with passion, principles, and a commitment to doing software right
SchäferSoft is a small, focused software company from Thurgau, Switzerland. We don't build off-the-shelf products. We build software we'd stand behind ourselves. Every line of code is written with care, precision, and the intention to do the right thing, not just the fast thing.
What defines us as a company is our team culture. At SchäferSoft, the people who work here genuinely love what they do. We talk openly with each other, learn from one another, and grow together. No hierarchy thinking, no empty buzzwords. Just real work, real feedback, and real solidarity.
Well-being and job happiness aren't HR talking points here. They're lived reality. We believe that people who enjoy their work do better work. Our team members are the heart of SchäferSoft: a force that as a collective achieves great things.
What defines us
Four principles that at SchäferSoft aren't just words on paper
Precision
We write code that works, not code that's quickly finished. Every decision is thought through, every solution cleanly implemented.
Passion
Software isn't a job for us. It's a craft. We work because we want to, and you can feel that in every project.
Openness
Open in code, open in conversation. At SchäferSoft there's no hierarchical thinking. Feedback flows in all directions.
Sustainability
Long-term thinking in software, long-term thinking in partnerships. We build things that will still stand in ten years.
"Together as a team, we want to achieve great things. Through our solidarity and our ambition, we set standards. Not because we have to, but because we want to."

Hardware with an Apple on it
Although the majority of computers worldwide run on Windows, we deliberately work with Apple hardware internally. It provides us with a stable, performant, and efficient working environment that enables us to develop software at a high quality level.
However, our choice of development environment has no influence on the end product: the solutions we develop can of course also run on Windows or Linux and can be flexibly integrated into existing system landscapes.
In our orchard country, we don't just work with apples. We work with Apple.
How we work
No overhead, no empty promises. Structured, honest work
Agile Sprints
We work in short SCRUM sprints. That means regular releases, early feedback, and no waiting months for results.
Direct Communication
No ticket systems as a substitute for real conversations. At SchäferSoft we have short paths, clear statements, and an open error culture.
Code Reviews
Every change gets reviewed. Not out of distrust, but because four eyes see more than two, and because quality is teamwork.
Quality over Speed
We'd rather deliver something solid a week late than something shaky on time. Technical debt costs more in the long run.
Into the future with OpenSource
Open Source is more than a technical choice at SchäferSoft. It's a stance. Transparent, comprehensible, and community-reviewed software aligns with our values: open, honest, and long-term thinking. We build on technologies we believe in, and we give back to the community what we've received from it.

What does Open Source mean at SchäferSoft specifically?
Open Source means transparent, comprehensible, and long-term maintainable software for us. We deliberately use established open source technologies where the source code is accessible, documented, and reviewed by an active community. This reduces dependencies on individual vendors and increases technical quality.
Why does SchäferSoft rely on Open Source?
Because it makes technical sense. Open source software is often more stable, secure, and flexible than proprietary alternatives. Security vulnerabilities are discovered faster, customisations are always possible, and clients retain control over their systems.
Is open source software secure enough for sensitive data?
Yes, when used correctly. Security does not come from secrecy, but from clean architecture, updates, and clear access concepts. We carefully select components, consistently harden systems, and consider privacy and security from the very beginning.
Does the developed software belong to the client?
Generally yes. The goal is to build solutions that can be operated, extended, and maintained independently of SchäferSoft. Licence models and usage rights are handled transparently, no hidden dependencies.
Does Open Source mean lower costs?
Not automatically, but often in the long run. Licence fees are eliminated and systems can be operated and extended more sustainably. The focus is on investing in clean implementation rather than ongoing licence costs.
